CAN ASYLUM SEEKERS TRAVEL?

WITHIN THE UNITED STATES, YES WITH A WORK PERMIT.

Asylum-seekers are able to travel within the United States after receiving a work permit (Employment Authorization Card). Work permits are a federal document that satisfies the requirements of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES, NO.

For the vast majority of asylees, international travel is not recommended as this can impact your asylum case. Asylum-seekers are permitted to leave, but doing so will forfeit their claim for asylum. There are few exceptions for advanced parole, a special status that can take months to secure and is expensive.
