A New Solution: RIF Welcome Center
To further combat these challenges, RIF aims to make its longstanding dream to establish the first Welcome Center for Asylum Seekers in NYC a reality in 2018. The center will serve as a drop-in space to provide asylum seekers with the basic tools to establish themselves in the city. It will be an especially important resource for newly arrived asylum seekers in NYC, when they are most isolated and vulnerable.
Furthermore, a centralized space will allow us to cultivate more community engagement, leading to more support for our work and our clients. We expect to increase our capacity to attract and maintain a volunteer base in the community. The Welcome Center will provide a space for asylum seekers to meet one-one-one with volunteers for counseling, educational support, or to practice their English.
