What is the difference between an asylum seeker and a resettled refugee?
There is often confusion about the difference between asylum seekers and refugees who enter the U.S. through the resettlement process. While both are fleeing persecution in their home countries, they seek refugee through two very different processes. We hope this graphic will help people make the distinction between asylum seekers and resettled refugees. In particular, we aim to highlight just how little support asylum seekers receive when they arrive in New York City.
